France attracts foreign researchers
On Monday 5 May 2025, President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, together with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, launched the “Choose Europe for Science” initiative.
It aims to attract public and private researchers and entrepreneurs from all over the world to choose Europe and France as their place of work.
The event gathered some of the greatest names in European research, university presidents, heads of research institutes, companies and political leaders from all over the continent. It was also the occasion for several announcements:
- The President of the French Republic mentioned that last April, France had launched the “Choose France for Science” platform dedicated to applications to host international researchers in France. To date, more than 30,000 people have logged on to the platform.
- The President of the French Republic has announced additional funding of €100 million under the France 2030 programme to attract foreign researchers.
- The President of the European Commission has announced a European funding plan worth €500 million for the period 2025-2027.
